    ドラゴンクエストというゲームは、基本的に外から物語や神話みたいなものを借りてこない。これはどういうことかと言うと、エクスカリバーとかラグナロクっていうファイナルファンタジー（以下FF）によく登場する武器の名前は、FFオリジナルの武器なのではなく、北欧神話だったり他の神話から拝借するような形で、ゲーム中に登場させているわけなのだけれど、ドラゴンクエストというゲームはそういうことを基本的にしていないのである。

    　「おうごんのつめ」というアイテムだってもっとファラオのなんちゃら～みたいにもっと、古代エジプトとかの歴史と絡めたネーミングが出来そうなのに、それをせず、ひらがなで抽象的な名前をつけている。この辺がドラクエをドラクエたらしめている理由の一つでもあるのだろう。
